Popular Penguin number two: Raymond Chandler’s The Big Sleep

I’d never heard of this book before, so it was the first ‘first-time’ read for me from the Popular Penguins and – I was impressed! Perhaps the original detective novel, full of great one liners, hard boiled characters, gun play and naked babes sneaking into apartments.

Sounds like my twenties, or at least how I imagine it was if I remembered them.

Anyway, always a welcome surprise to see that a novel written in the twenties the main topics are gambling and porn (which sounds like my thirties – ah, just kidding).

Anyway, if you don’t know what “The Big Sleep” means before you read this book, you’ll know afterwards.

Buy it for tenner. Read it. A rock solid four stars.
